Got to even things out, a good testimonal
Dear Lynn,
It has been a pleasure working with you and a much improved service from my previous website designer and SEO.
I found Lynn by doing a google search for website optimization I can’t remember the exact search I think SEO Price List, and Lynn was the top listing. I felt that if she had got herself to the top of the page under optimization she must know what she was doing.
I contacted her and she promptly replied with a reasonable quote and promised she could make the changes that were needed in a short period of time.
Over the next 3 days Lynn worked night and day on my site and was so enthusiastic about making the changes she ended up doing more than she had promised.
Lynn is constantly checking my site on a regular basis to see where we are sitting on the search engines, within 3 weeks of Lynn making her changes I have gone from about page 20 to page 2, with more changes in progress we may make page 1 by Christmas.
I would recommend Lynn to anybody wanting efficient, fairly priced service with a personal enthusiasm to your company.
Thank you Lynn for all your hard work, it is paying off and improved my business 100 percent.
Thanks
Nicky Whineray-Blair
Boxit Ltd – http://www.boxit.co.nz/
Well thank you, Nicky, I’ve enjoyed every minute of getting your site to where it is, and where it will be for months, years…….
I just checked the word boxes and it’s at #6 on page 1 of google.co.nz “the Web” search and #8 on page 1 for “Search New Zealand”
That’s darn good, I’m so good… hehehe…. that particular keyword wasn’t anywhere in the first 1000 results when I started, and ranking so well for a single keyword is really good. And of course you know about all the key phrases that are at at #1
I’ve done some more work on that word today, so it should come up a little higher yet. I will be interested to see where your site is by April next year as well.
Wow, a bad testimonal, does this mean I’m a bad SEO or a bad friend?
Wow a bad testimonial. I will post it as it was sent to me, with my responses in Red
Hi Lynny,
I’ve been doing SEO work for clients (paid work) since June 2000! Oh, you have one more years experience than me, WOW WEE!!!!
I don’t think it is a matter of how long you have been trying…how long you have been succeeding seems far more relevant.
That is no doubt why you asked for an account of what work I would do for the $500 quote, that should have been $2000, so you could do the work yourself, and not bother paying me.
To my thousands maybe millions of readers: This quote was asked for after, what this person is complaining about below.
I’m more than capable of doing the work, but like most people doing
SEO work, also take on the services of other individuals and companies
to help from time to time. Yep I get people to do work for me, but not after they have done a bad job as you claim.
I’m not that impressed with your SEO skills frankly. Why don’t you
post the following on your blog and let people know how wonderful you
are at SEO, and search engine submission… Ok, doing that now, thank you for giving me permission, but I would have done it anyway, this is my blog, and I needed something to write about, so thank you.
hostingservers. co. uk (unique visitor numbers) your words not mine, although I did put gaps in the url so it won’t display as a link. This website has been registered since 2001 so not much SEO has been done on the site to only have this many uniques.
Still to be fair our own site, which get’s the least SEO work done on it at all, was only getting about that many about that many last year and until Feb 07 when I did some directory submissions 200 of them, now we will get about 5250 this month, that domain name was brought in 04, so you have 3 years head start. There’s a lot of hope for your site with 1300 submissions, keep you fingers crossed.

Back in March we paid Lynny $125 to do SEO search engine and directory
submissions for this site. True, and I have to admit, I hung off doing about 2/3 of the submissions until the new site we built was up, as I didn’t think anyone would accept your old site.
Can you see the difference in unique visitors? (i can’t, …in fact i see a decrease but that’s probably a seasonal variation cause not all months are the same).
So actually it was even worst, unfortunately I must have choosen the wrong directories you did stipulate that you only wanted to be added to directories with high PR, against my advice.
That still is disturbing, but looking at your stats for the year before, yes you do have a seasonal drop in those months. But I am still getting resposes to submission for your site, so the ones I did will be getting mixed up with the next ones now, though still there should have been a few more directory’s visiting your site, as I explain later.
Last month (Sept) we paid CheapestSubmissions.com NZD $135 …can you
see the diffrence for September & October? …I can, 57% increase
during September, and a 40% increase compared to previous month prior
to the submissions for October.
This is not a true indication of visitors, each directory a website is submitted to make a visit to the site before they accepting or rejecting it.
So his visitors are actually down, drastically, but as I have said in other posts, directory submissions will help brings visitors to your website, so they will come maybe next month or the month after, or the month after…oh that would be Jan 08, another bad month… you will see the visitors went up 5 or 6 weeks later in May and September, from my submissions, thats how long it usally takes for directory submissions to actually start working.
I will write a case study tomorrow with screenshots, when this month is finished in the stats, that shows after a submission of only 300 increased a websites vistors by over 6000 in 6 months. So you have already mentioned your website name so I don’t need to, you can maybe expect about 18,000 visitors by March next year, by then the submissions I did will be all handled by them so prehaps you can get another 6000, you won’t know whatto do with yourself huh.
Make up your own mind… would you rather be paying $125 for a -3%
decrease for one of your sites, …or $135 for an average +49%
increase (over 2 months following)? …the stats tell the story
Yes the stats does tell a story, the new website we designed and built in July is being accepted by more directory’s, and it is coming up to Christmas, when traditionally your website visitors, and your stats are actually up as well. It’s a little unfair to say you will get 18,000 visitors in 6 months, there are only 2 reasons people visit a webhosting website, either becuase they are starting a webhosting company themselves and want to look at your prices and undercut them, or they are looking for webhosting, so perhaps you can send me another email in April, and I will post it here, to show the increase in visitors from both my submission and the one thats just been done.
…go with a reliable SEO directory submission services provider: Bruce Clark, Aotea Web Hostings, islands.co.nz webhostingnz.com aotea.net and several others I can’t be bothered looking for.
http://www.cheapestsubmissions.com/
These guys seem to be very good, I’m not in anyway saying their service isn’t good, I haven’t used it, but in fact I might try them out myself. and I will allow the link to them to stay on this blog, and on my new website where I will also post this particular post.
It is unfair for the person that wrote this bad testimonal to compare my prices with Indian prices, thats like comparing Sak’s with K Mart or a 99 cent store.
This website is a good example of duplicate content, and dealing with friends, or in this case a friends of a friend, and giving GOOD DEALS to someone, which I will discuss in a future post.
You are still more than welcome to pay me for the idea’s for SEO you gobbled up and used rather than paying for, my paypal email is lynny@canzdesign.com and I believe I said $550.
For a quote that should have been $2000, but a friend asked me to give it to you cheap. You are more than welcome to come back anytime and read this blog, as I’m sure you are doing right now while I write this response, I freely give away advice here, so I won’t consider it and isn’t intellectual theft. You can’t do that when it’s posted for everyone to see.
This is not the whole story with this client, but this is turning into a nasty “he said, she said” and I don’t have the time I blacklisted this client in my email.
God, this is childish…. I was going to go to bed, but think I will start writing more content for my new website. http://www.seobycanz.com/

Deleted Post. But will leave here so I can add it later if I choose.
Best way to get good links
So what is the best way to get good reliable links?
Well it depends on how much you want to spend and how often you want to spend it. It is possible to buy links from many places, if you are looking for “Free links” they maybe free, but they cost a lot in time to do them, and I have already mentioned in the last post things you might do, the only other thing you can do is appoach other business owners, perferably the same business as your’s, in your distict and ask for a link exchange.
I’m working on a idea at the moment which will be avaiable in a month, that will supply links, good links for about $20 each, I’m sure you will want to work on making a few yourself, before you see that $20 each for a good permanant link is a bargin.

Getting your website to #1 in search engines
Hi, this will be my first post, so thought it best to make it important.
The only way to get to #1 in search engines, is to get a lot of links coming to your website perferably without any links leaving your website.
The fast cheap way to get these links: …. there isn’t one….
Building up links takes either a lot of time, or a lot of money paying someone someone else to do it.
How many links am I talking about?
Well without getting too techy, I’ll say heaps, 100 is a good target.
So what’s the problem, submitting your site to directory’s doesn’t cost much.
The problem is that links from directory’s, aren’t worth much either, don’t get me wrong, I submit all the websites I do SEO for to directory’s, but not because they will get the sites high ranking, but because it helps raise the number of visitors to the site without high rankings.
Whats the ranking thing about? Google assigns a rating or raking to a website, this rating it called PR (Page Rank) and it uses this ranking to decide which website will show first in it’s results. The home page of a website will always have the highest ranking, then if links within your website are done correctly the ranking will often drop by one point for each level away or deep from the main page, the webpage is, so if your home pages PR is 4, then a webpage thats 4 levels deep, will have no page rank.
There are exceptions to this rule, but in general thats the case.
So how to I get these links.
As I mentioned above, the ideal link is just a link coming to your website, you can get these by postings a comment on some blogs, by making posts in forums, by paying for links, there a problem with this though, or actually 2 problems.
- Most blog and forum owners, especially ones with a high PR, disable links from people posting, if they allow allow people posting to even add their link in the first place.
- The link needs to appear on a webpage that has a good PR itself, and PR takes a while to build up, so if you make a posting on a forum, if could take months even years for the page to recieve a PR, so don’t expect anything to happen quickly.
- OK, there’s a 3rd problem, many forums. blags and websites in general disable the link once the page does get a PR of it’s own.
Disabling a link can be done in several ways, but the mostly sleazy way is to leave the link looking live, but add a no follow tag to the link, so search engines see the link, but don’t look at the website, and don’t count it as a link. The trick is common with many many website owners, and like I said, I think it’s very sleazy, if you are going to disable the link, at least be honest about it.
The do this because links from a page will leach that pages PR, so in other words it gives some of the Page rank to the place the link goes to….. which is how your website get’s it’s page rank your website get’s bits of PR from each page that links to you.
So you may ask, well how can I get these links….
And I would answer… wait for another post…..

www or no www
Have you ever noticed that some websites will work as it were when you put the www in front of the url, and yet go to an page not found, when the www isn’t there…. or vise versa?
If you are unlucky enough to have this problem, just get in touch with the company thats hosts your website, and ask them to change the settings so both url’s work. It’s just a setting in the control panel, which would take only 5 minutes to change.
You may not think it’s a problem, but at a recently internet users conference I attended, they said a large % of internet uses, don’t think to do something like that, and that if a webpage doesn’t show, they will just got to another website. I have to admit, I do know about this, and only now and again, I will think to do it, so it’s worth getting fixed.
Unless you have a very big website (hundreds or thousands of pages) you shouldn’t be paying more than $20 a month for hosting, more like $10 or less, and if you are only paying $5 or $10 a month your host may make a charge to change it but it’s unlikely and as i said it only takes a couple of minutes to do.
Most of our website hosting clients only pay $10 a month, we set that particular setting when we first start hosting a website, but would change something like this for free.

How directory listings work in increasing your visitors.

To give an example of how directory listings work, to get people seeing your link, and visiting your site
I have a website I have done SEO work for for over three years. It’s a relatively small e-commerce website selling gemstones and jewelery. www.gemhunters.com.au up until April this year I have only done onsite optimisation, not a lot of work, only a couple of hundred dollars a every 3 or 5 months, and her visitors where sitting around the 5000 to 5700 a month.
At the end of April 07 her website stats said she had 5009 visitors (tax month so visitors were down)
I stopped doing any onsite optimization, I started submitting her site to directory’s, the owner
would only invest enough to do 100 submissions at a time, at the end of Sept 07 she had 9542
visitors. so she averaging even for her best month before I started submissions, and increase
of almost 4000 more visitors a month.
All up this client has spent just a little under $3000 on SEO and is getting as I said just over 9500 visitors last month.
The beauty of the SEO I do is if I stopped doing any SEO on her site right this minute, she would carry on getting about the same number of visitors, next month, next year, in 5 years. Sure it
would change a little on a monthly basis, but generally her monthly visitors would stay in the 7500 – 11000 per month range, as long as she keeps replacing the sold stock.
Let face it, in the general scheme of things, $3000 is peanuts,(and that was mates rates) but it really makes you wonder what would have happened if she had invested twice that amount of
money, don’t you think?
I mean gemstones is a relatively small niche market, smaller than the gay market. I just did a search for a comparison of how many people searched for gay in relation to three gem related keywords, and the three gem words don’t even rank.
Check out this results page of that search
Rainbow Tourism shaping up.
Almost a month ago, I wrote about the website we are building for Rainbow Tourism, it’s a directory of gay friendly places to stay, well the site isn’t quite live yet, but it’s getting close now, only about 2 weeks to launch date.
A lot of things have happened in less than a month with this business relationship with Rainbow Tourism, besides making this site dynamic and a CMS, (means the owner of the site can make web pages, and doesn’t have to know anything about web design) now all the listings are searchable, and the site is more manageable generally.
Though doing this project, we have met a wonderful American programmer/coder called Andrew, we started out with an Indian company doing the site, but things didn’t work out, and we found Andrew, who can do any coding that we can’t do, and the bonus is he’s a very fast worker, he has good prices, and he speaks English, no more making pictures for every step of the process of building a very large website.
And if that isn’t enough, he’s a really nice guy, we have had him do four other small projects, as well as building the rainbow site right from the start.
My skills from the old days of owning the Canz Stock Photo Bank, are really helping me now, and the training of data entry staff, I did then, have proved invaluable for training staff now, to load all the listings into this new Tourism Site.
My arm is to sore to type anymore, it’s been a hard month, See yah.
Boxit domain names
The owner of http://www.boxit.co.nz/ has been very impressed with the results of my SEO work,
so impressed, that she’s decided to expand her business to the world market.
I advised her to buy some dot coms, and let them get into the search engines buy parking them over her orginal website.
This will get google looking though the site, and then her site will start to appear in world search engines, rather than mainly in New Zealand Search engines.
She brought these names.
http://www.boxitgiftbaskets.com/
http://www.boxitgifthampers.com/
http://www.boxitgiftboxes.com/
The results of the SEO are too numerous to mention here, but one stunning result is just for the for the word
boxes
in the google.co.nz search for New Zealand websites, her site is listed at #3 in the search results, thats a pretty impressive feat, ranking so well in a single word search.
When I do another analysis of keywords and their ranking in varies search engines, I’ll write the results here so you all can read them.
ok, ok, you twisted my arm, I’ll tell you three phrases she’s doing #1 for in google.co.nz
buy gifts for ladies
gifts for ladies
ladies gifts
these are all #1 ranking in New Zealands google, search on New Zealand websites.
Before I started, these 3 particular searches where ranked at more than 100.
I know this, cause I don’t search future than the first 10 pages, and the site didn’t appear.
So thats quite remarkable, don’t you think?
